The goals of physical therapy are to reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore physical function and overall fitness.  Depending on your injury, disease or condition, you may need to improve your  flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, and/or balance.  To do this, your treatment may focus on:

  • Your muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones (musculoskeletal system).
  • Your spinal cord and nerves (nervous system).  
  • Your heart and circulation.
  • Your inner ear (vestibular system), which is important in keeping your balance.  
  • A combination of these.
